MDF monstrous cavalry skirmish tray consisting of MDF upper frame and lower base. Select the height of frame required to match the depth of miniatures' bases. Each cutout is placed 1/2" (12.7mm) apart with a 1/4" (6.35mm) trim to maintain consistent spacing between individual bases.

The cutouts leave exactly 1/2" between each base, so my cavalry ranks line up perfectly without any fiddling. I was worried about the MDF being flimsy, but the frame and base lock together solidly.
